Baked Ham and Cheese Sliders
One of my favorite times of year is just around the corner! Yes, fall, and all of its glorious colors, cooler temps, and more manageable hair days are coming up on the calendar. What I am really excited for is the start of college football! I am a lover of all the rivalries, college colors, and of course the food. Lots and lots of food. Including these Baked Ham and Cheese Sliders!

Now baked sliders are nothing new in the culinary world.
Sometimes I have even heard these called “funeral sandwiches”.

Which may on the surface seem a little depressing, calling a delicious sandwich something that is in general a very sad occasion.
But in reality there is really nothing to be sad about when these sandwiches are served.

A package of sweet Hawaiian Rolls are split in half.
Then layered with slices of ham and Swiss cheese.

Then before replacing the tops of the sandwiches, I put on my secret ingredient that takes these sandwiches to the next level.
A pickle slice!

I use our homemade sweet and spicy pickles!
But any sort of pickle slice will be delicious I am sure.
To finish off the sandwiches, they are baked with a drizzle of melted butter, grated onion, and mustard.

These are great to be assembled ahead of time and then right before the party is going to start (or kick-off for your favorite football team).
Stick them in the oven to bake and then slice apart and put on a platter for serving.
Don’t be afraid to make more than one batch. Since they are “small” I totally support that having more than one to eat is completely necessary.
