Dr Pepper Baked Beans
Grilling season is upon us and few side dishes are as essential to a summer picnic as baked beans. These Dr Pepper Baked Beans have been a family favorite for years!
I love bacon, I love baked beans, and I love Dr. Pepper.
Have I mentioned that before? Maybe in this Dr Pepper BBQ Pork recipe.
Now this recipe combines all those loves to make a great side dish for anything on the grill.
Sweet and tangy beans, made easy by a dump it and forget it approach.
No need to cook the beans for hours. Just start with a couple cans of baked beans and Dr them up (see what I did there?).
Add in bacon, onions, Dr. Pepper, plus some seasonings and you are on your way.
One of the key ingredients in this dish is the ground mustard. It gives the beans such a great tang and flavor. Trust me on this one and don’t leave it out.
A go-to side dish for Perfectly Grilled Steak or a great Grilled Cheeseburger.
Just be warned if you bring these Dr Pepper Baked Beans to any summer picnic or family potluck, take along the printout. I guarantee you will be asked for the recipe.

Agreed! 😉
Will diet Dr pepper work?
I haven’t tried diet Dr Pepper in the recipe, but don’t see why it wouldn’t work. And if you are wanting to cut down on the sugar/calorie level of the dish, feel free to lower the amount of brown sugar. My crew likes sweet baked beans, but I realize that isn’t for everyone. Happy cooking! 🙂
Could this be cooked in a crock pot?
Hi Amber! I usually make these beans in the oven first and then take them/reheat them in a crockpot for family potlucks. Without the baking process the beans may have more liquid then what you want. If making directly in the crockpot make sure to drain the baked beans and also cut back on the liquid amounts in the recipe.
What type of baked beans? Ones in tomato sauce or maple or molasses?
Kelly, I always use the ones in tomato sauce, but I don’t see a problem with any of the other “flavors” as I drain the beans so that the final product doesn’t have too much liquid.

If I double the beans do I double everything else
Yes, I would.
I made these for my Church cook out and not only did everyone want the recipe, now they ask that I bring them every time we have one!
Oh you know it is a good recipe when everyone at church wants a copy! No better feeling then being THAT person at a potluck.
