Easy Almost Homemade Doughnuts
What is it about warm, fresh doughnuts? A staple of any gas station breakfast or early morning meeting at the office. But why venture out when there is a simple trick that can have your family eating (almost) homemade doughnuts with only three simple ingredients.
You heard me right. Three! Canned biscuits, oil, and sugar.
I didn’t say they were healthy ingredients, but hey, I haven’t met a doughnut yet that said it was.
The first time I remember making these, was all the way back in Kindergarten. I don’t know why we made doughnuts in class, but I suggest more of those lesson plans for all you teachers out there! It made for a happy, sugar-buzzed classroom of six year olds.
When making these I usually go for a smaller biscuit dough, like these Pillsbury Grands Southern Homestyle biscuits. Best to steer clear of the flaky layer biscuits for this recipe.
Now confession time. I didn’t have a small enough biscuit cutter or bottle cap for this recipe, so what did I use? A wine bottle. Yep! The opening of an empty wine bottle was the perfect size to cut out the doughnut holes.
Wine is made from grapes. Grapes are a fruit. Fruit is good for breakfast. Please tell me you follow my logic.

So if you are like me and live miles away from the nearest doughnut shop, don’t despair. You now have these easy, almost, homemade doughnuts that can be quickly made for any morning breakfast paired with a freshly brewed cup of coffee.

First, I use a metal( because it’s thin and cuts well) lipstick tube cover to cut my don’t holes.
Second, mix 1 cup powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons cocoa powder and just enough milk to make a thick icing…yum…of course in my house I always had to make two containers of biscuits and I put cinnamon in the sugar I used.
Kari what great ideas! I love that you used a lipstick cover. So awesome!
