Thanksgiving Turkey Treats
Years and years ago (I mean close to the dark ages here people) my mom had received the note. The dreaded note. You know the one. The one that says your child is in charge of bringing treats to class. Now please remember this was before the invention of the wonderful gift of Google and Pinterest (gasp!). So what was a momma to do? She scoured through family and church cookbooks, recipe cards, and cooking magazines to find the perfect Thanksgiving sweet that would be kid approved. And what came to life were these Thanksgiving Turkey Treats.

A few simple ingredients and assembly is all that is needed to bring this sweet treat to life as a Thanksgiving turkey.

Oreo cookies provide both a base and backdrop for these festive sweets.
Topped with a small rice krispie treat for the “turkey” body and finished off with some candy corn details.

These treats are a great way to get your kids involved in the Thanksgiving meal.
Yes, the chocolate frosting maybe a little messy for some littles, but they will have fun being a part of the assembly process.

Perfect for any school or daycare party with kids.
Or a simple alternative to the barrage of pies that find there way to the Thanksgiving feast.

Thanksgiving Turkey Treats
Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp Butter
- 2 cups Mini Marshmallows
- 3 cups Rice Krispies Cereal
- 14 Oreos
- 1/2 cup Chocolate Frosting
- 56 Candy Corn Pieces
Instructions
-
Over low heat, melt butter in a small saucepan. Add the marshmallows. Stir until melted.
-
Into a bowl, put the rice krispie cereal. Next, pour the melted marshmallow mixture over the cereal. Stir to combine. Then with buttered hands (or I use plastic gloves) form the cereal mixture into 1.5 inch balls. You should have 14 total.
-
Gently twist apart the oreos. On one half of the cookie spread a small amount of frosting on the inside. Then place a rice krispie ball on top of the frosting and gently press down.
-
Onto the second half of the oreo, spread another small amount of frosting on the inside. Place three candy corn pieces across the top in a fan pattern. Press the second half onto the "back" side of the rice krispie ball.
-
Attach another candy corn piece with a small amount of frosting to form the turkey's head on the "front" side of the rice krispie ball.
Recipe Notes
These are best when made the same day you plan to serve them. The frosting sometimes makes the Oreo cookie a little soft.
