Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp Yeast
  • 1/2 cup Warm Water
  • 2 cups Hot Water
  • 3 Tbsp Sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/3 cup Oil
  • 6 1/2 cups Flour
  • 1 Egg, for brushing

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. Let proof 10 minutes.

  2. In separate mixing bowl, combine hot water (almost boiling), sugar, salt, oil, and 3 cups of the flour and mix together.

  3. Add the yeast mixture to the bowl. Then add the remaining 3 1/2 cups of flour, one cup at a time. Mixing after each addition.

  4. Once flour is added, let dough sit for 10 minutes.

  5. Divide dough into 3 equal pieces.

  6. On a floured surface, roll each piece into a 9x12 inch rectangle. Roll the dough up like a jelly roll, shape into a loaf and place onto a greased baking sheet, seem side down.

  7. Once all 3 loaves are formed; use a sharp knife to make 3-4 diagonal cuts across the top of each loaf. Cutting about 1/4 inch deep into the dough.

  8. Brush with a beaten egg.

  9. Let dough rise uncovered for 30-40 minutes in a warm place.

  10. Bake at 375°F for 18-22 minutes or until golden brown.
