My Farmhouse Table – The Start of Something New

August 9, 2017 by My Farmhouse Table 4 Comments

The Start of Something New

Thanks to my love of anything The Pioneer Woman, a cultural communications course I took my senior year of college, and my gift of gab and eats, starting a blog has been one of those things that peaked my interest for many years. But somehow I always found reasons not to take that next step. A few months ago, I had my “come to Jesus” moment and seriously asked what I was waiting for? When no solid excuse was found, I decided now is my time to start something new.

So without further stalling, let me introduce you to “My Farmhouse Table”.

My Farmhouse Table Logo First Blog PostMy life has usually revolved around a few things “Faith, Family, Farming, and Food” and during the fall you better add in “Football”. On the farm, those topics are all covered around our kitchen table. Talking about the weather or commodity markets surrounded by good food and even better people.

That’s what I want to bring to My Farmhouse Table. A place to share my beliefs, ideas, and struggle. A place to show pictures of agriculture or fun how to tips and tricks. A place to combine my love of traveling with my love of connecting people through food.

I’m not saying it will always be pretty with sunshine and roses, because that’s not life. It’s messy and full of rough patches and sinks full of dirty dishes. As much as I love to troll around on Pinterest for hours at a time, I quickly come to realize that I will never have a house that looks like a show room or have family and friends that enjoy duck confit with shaved Brussels sprouts and lemon zest over a grilled burger and onion rings. That’s just how we roll and I won’t apologize for it.

I have always loved food and its way of bringing people together. No get together on the farm is complete without incredible home cooked meals and great company. Food has always been a way for me to remember fond memories I have had throughout my life, like a good song, it takes you back to a time and place that may have been easily forgotten if not for the friendly aroma coming from a kitchen stove.

The red letter days remembered with grilled filets for my birthday celebrations, the pasta salad served at my high school graduation party, or the prize winning bread I took to county fair the year I was named queen. But even more special was those small moments in between when mom would make me chicken and noodle every year after my first day of school, or grandma serving up slow cooked beef roast and mashed potatoes before a competitive game of “Go Fish” to determine who did the dishes, or a homemade runza and beer shared on the tailgate of a pickup at the finish of fall harvest. Food has a wonderful way of creating memories.

I hope you jump on this journey with me and see where the wind may blow us. It is sure to be an exciting ride.

About My Farmhouse Table

Hi my name is Chanda. I was raised in the Midwest on my family’s grain and cattle farm. I’m a lover of homecooked meals, John Wayne, sunsets, agriculture, traveling, and laughter. My days are based around faith, family, farming, and food.

Growing up our farmhouse table was always the gathering spot to start and finish the day. It has been a place that my family would stop to share meals and laughter. It is the location of some of our favorite memories of competitive card games or grandma’s country meals.

The kitchen table is a place of unity and comfort on a farm and that is the feeling I wanted to bring to my blog. A place to share my memories, my stories, my passions, and most importantly my love of a great homecooked meal.
