Better Than Takeout Beef & Broccoli
Labor Day seems to mark the unofficial end of summer. Kids are back in school, vacations completed, and life seems to get more hectic. If you are involved in agriculture, harvest is also just around the corner. Everyone is busy and that is when recipes like this Better Than Takeout Beef & Broccoli is just what your family is needing.

I have mentioned before on this blog, my love for Panda Express and really all things Chinese takeout.
It’s one of those food groups that I crave all the time.
That may be because I live in the middle of the country, where the nearest Chinese food place is over an hour away.
(Cue sad music here).

One of my favorite ways to wrap up a hectic week is to turn on the tv and sit down with a plate of Chinese takeout (or a version I’ve made myself – like my Better than Takeout Sesame Chicken – one of the most popular recipes on this site).
Veg mode commence.

What I love about this recipe is just how incredibly simple it is.
Plus it is all made in one pan!
Hello quick clean up.

It is also an easy recipe to adapt to fit your tastes.
Try using snow peas in place of the broccoli.
Or add in sliced mushrooms (like I did in these pictures). It pushes an already delicious meal over the top.

This weekend, make a plan to whip up this delicious takeout fake-out and tune into your favorite show or movie.
Kick up your feet and call it a week.

Better Than Takeout Beef & Broccoli
Better Than Takeout Beef & Broccoli recipe is an easy one pan homemade Chinese meal. Tender marinated beef, broccoli, & mushrooms. Simple healthy beef stir-fry
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Soy Sauce
- 5 Tbsp Brown Sugar
- 2 tsp Rice Vinegar
- 1 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
- 8 oz Broccoli
- 4 Tbsp Olive Oil
- 8 oz Mushrooms, sliced thinly
- 1 lb Beef, thinly sliced Sirloin Steak, Flank Steak, etc.
- Cooked Rice, for serving
Instructions
-
In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and garlic powder. Set aside.
-
In a saucepan, bring water to boil and cook broccoli for about 5 minutes or until it reaches desired doneness (remember it will cook a little more when you add it to the stir fry). Drain and set aside.
-
Meanwhile in a large skillet, heat half the olive oil until hot. Add the mushrooms and cook until they brown. Salt midway through, but not too much with the addition of the soy sauce later. Remove the mushrooms from the pan and set aside.
-
Add the remaining oil to the skillet, heat, and then add in the beef. Cook the beef until it browns nicely. Work in two batches if necessary as to not crowd the pan.
-
Return all the beef to the skillet with the broccoli and mushrooms. Pour sauce over the top and stir to combine. Heat through and serve over cooked rice.
