Caramel Crispix Snack Mix

October 12, 2024 by My Farmhouse Table Leave a Comment

Caramel Crispix Snack Mix

Halloween is just a few short weeks away, and if the 24/7 Christmas movies on TV are any indication, the holidays are going to be here sooner rather than later. One of my favorite things to make this time of year in anticipation of family, friends, and festivities is this Caramel Crispix Snack Mix.

Sometimes I’m looking for a savory party mix, but when I want something a little sweeter- this fits the bill.

Start by melting the butter in a large saucepan.

Add in the brown sugar and corn syrup.

Stir until combined and sugar is dissolved.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in a teaspoon of baking soda.

Be careful as the caramel will foam and expand slightly at this stage.

Next, pour the hot caramel over the Crispix cereal in a large, microwave safe, mixing bowl.

Gently stir the caramel and cereal together.

(For an added touch- feel free to add in nuts or pretzels to the cereal before adding the caramel at this stage.)

Microwave for four minutes, stirring the snack mix after each minute.

After the last minute of microwaving, pour the caramel covered Crispix onto wax or parchment paper. Spread the cereal into a single layer to cool.

After the mix has cooled, break apart and store in an airtight container. Add in any other ‘extras’ at this time (like chocolate chips or M&M candies).

Enjoy this sweet mix at your next football watch party or during the upcoming holiday season.

Ingredients

  • 1 box (12 oz) Crispix Cereal
  • 1 1/2 sticks Butter
  • 2 cups Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Corn Syrup
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda

Instructions

  1. Place the Crispix cereal in a large, microwave safe, bowl.

  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter and then add in the brown sugar and corn syrup. Cook and stir over medium-low heat until the sugar has dissolved and the ingredients combined.

  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the baking soda. Be careful as this causes the caramel to foam and expand slightly.

  4. Pour the caramel over the cereal in the mixing bowl. Stir gently.

  5. Microwave cereal for 4 minutes, stirring after each minute.

  6. After microwaving, pour the caramel covered cereal onto wax or parchment paper. Spread out into a single layer to cool.

  7. When cooled, break apart and store in an airtight container.

Recipe Notes

For an added touch- feel free to add in nuts or pretzels to the cereal before adding the caramel to the mixing bowl. Microwave as directed.

And then once the cereal has cooled- you can add in M&Ms or other chocolate candies.
