A Weekend: As Told Through My Phone Camera
Summer is in full swing around here and that means even though school is out, schedules don’t slow down. That was no exception with this past weekend.
Even though I have a blog and phone usually within reach, I sometimes forget to take pictures of my everyday life. So this weekend I made it a point to take the time to document the highlights and share them here.
1) The Bann Fam!
My weekend kicked off on Friday, when I was able to catch up with some friends as they passed through Omaha on their way to a wedding Saturday.
Now you may remember my “Bann Fam” from last October when I spent a few days with them on their family farm in western New York.
No apple orchards or falling leaves for this trip, but a lunch spent catching up was just what this girl needed.
2) My Summer Reading List
I love reading.
Romance, Classics, Bible Studies, New York Times Bestsellers
I’ll read them all.
And summer is the perfect time for me to catch up on my To-Read pile.
3) Bloom Baby Bloom
My garden is coming along.
We are to the point in the summer where the garden is a waiting game.
No produce yet. Just plenty of weeding, watering, and watching the peas, beans, cukes, and tomatoes start setting on blooms!
4) It Was My Birthday!
Saturday I celebrated my birthday.
I didn’t lie to you when I said, my birthday is never complete without an ice cream cake!
5) Croquet- The Farm Way
My parent’s have had a croquet set for most of my life.
The thing is, we never read instructions when it comes to games. My family has much more of a “wing it” style and make the rules up as we go.
Example A) Croquet.
Instead of the usual croquet set up. Our game is more of an obstacle course that travels, not just the back (and front) yard, but also a large section of the farm.
A course that includes, but not limited to:
Traversing around sharp, pokey evergreens trees,
Past the feed bunks,
Under the house gutters,
A full circle around the large maple tree,
Through the swing set,
And most importantly…
AVOID HITTING A BALL INTO MOMMA’S FLOWER BEDS AT ALL COSTS!
6) Storms Rollin’ In
June, in the Midwest, also usually means a pop up thunderstorm or two making their way over the plains.
I always love watching clouds roll in and take shape, turning the landscape ominous and dark.
Thankfully these storm clouds from Sunday only produced some rain and a bit of wind.
7) Father’s Day with Dad
One of the best parts of my weekend was being able to spend Father’s Day with Dad.
Summers a busy time on the farm. But at the end of the day, Dad’s always there to share a beer and stories.
I try never to take that time for granted.
