Best Baked Cod Recipe

Best Baked Cod Recipe

We are about halfway through Lent. Even though I shared, a few weeks ago, the Best Recipe Ideas for Lent, I realized that I haven’t posted some of my favorite seafood ideas yet on the blog. Including this Best Baked Cod Recipe!

Best Baked Cod Recipe Easy Oven Baked Fish Healthy Fish Recipes Lightly Breaded Parmesan Panko Crusted Cod My Farmhouse Table

We raise cattle and love our beef around here, but having a great seafood or fish option also makes my heart go pitter-patter.

One big drawback of living in the Midwest is how far away I am from an ocean and fresh seafood!

One positive, is that many local grocery stores carry some great seafood options at their meat counters, as well as in their frozen food section.

Which is what I went with when I made these!

Just add a few simple pantry items to make the baked on crust and these cod filets are so good, you won’t need to add anything extra.

Hold the tarter sauce y’all!

Stir together Parmesan cheese, melted butter, mayonnaise, lemon juice, Old Bay seasoning, basil, pepper, and a dash of hot sauce.

Pour over the cod filets and bake.

In about 10 to 25 minutes, depending on the size and thickness of the fish, you will have a light and delicious meal that the whole family will love.

Just add a side salad or vegetable of choice and dinner is served!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Cod Filets (about 4 filets)
  • 1/4 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • 2 Tbsp Melted Butter
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 1 Tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1/8 tsp Old Bay Seasoning (or Seasoned Salt)
  • 1/8 tsp Dried Basil
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Dash of Hot Sauce

Instructions

  1. In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, lay cod filets in a single layer.

  2. In a bowl, combine; Parmesan cheese, melted butter, mayonnaise, lemon juice, Old Bay seasoning, dried basil, pepper, and hot sauce.

  3. Spoon the cheese mixture over each filet.

  4. Bake at 350°F for 10-25 minutes or until the fish just starts to flake. Baking time will depend on the thickness of the fish you use.

Recipe Notes

Instead of Cod, feel free to use any type of white fish (ex. Tilapia) for this recipe.

Use fresh or frozen fish. Fish can be thawed prior to baking or add about 10 minutes to cooking time if using frozen filets.

With the pandemic this past year, I was more thankful then ever that I’ve been starting my plants from seed as all the local nurseries and greenhouses were sold out pronto. Plus, it lets me try out new varieties that aren’t as popular in my neck of the woods.

Starting seeds can be so fun, but I’ve made plenty of mistakes in the past, that with the blog post today I’m hoping to help you from making my same blunders.
